Chow Chow Relish new to Yummy CT!

OKAY! We have another great taste to add to our already great line up of flavors here at Yummy Connecticut. Have you hear of Mariah's Chow Chow Relishes? Well, if you haven't you will! Created by entrepreneur Phyllis W. Haynes of West Haven, CT, these relishes are just the kind of southern flavors we need here in New England. Chow Chow is a relish of vegetables and spices brought to the southern US when the Acadian people (French in origin) were expelled from Nova Scotia in the mid 1700s. Phyllis hails from Mississippi where she grew up with the delicious southern tradition of chow chow as a regular part of most meals. She remembers well her family’s traditional New Year’s meal of pork, black-eyed peas, collard greens and chow chow. In 2002, Phyllis made some chow chow from her great grandmother’s recipe and shared it with her family for Thanksgiving. The family loved how it re-connected them to their memories of their parents and grandparents. Before long, Phyllis was making chow chow for family and friends and people were offering to pay for jars of her chow chow. We are thrilled to add this delicious line of relishes to our other Yummy Connecticut offerings.
